Delaware is one of the most underrated states in the country. It’s small, but it packs a punch when it comes to beautiful seaside towns, beaches, and classic peach pie. A pristine coastline surrounds the state, which is conveniently wedged between Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.

As a matter of fact, Delaware was the first declared state in the USA and, as a result, offers many attractions centered around its unique history. The state is flooded with historic homes and beautiful hotels, but if you really want to experience the authentic side of Delaware, look for a cabin.

Cabins in Delaware not only come with authenticity but a lower price tag. They’re also located in the most stunning natural landscapes, offering a peaceful and serene environment. You’ll find everything from beach bungalows to woodsy cabins to lakeside cottages here.

But finding the right cabin is not easy, which is why I’ve prepared this guide to the top ten cabins in Delaware, from refurbished beach cabins to mid-century bungalows and everything in between.

Let’s take a look…

The type of cabins you’ll find in Delaware has been influenced by the terrain and landscape of the area. On the whole, Delaware is pretty flat as a state and is most well known for its beautiful beaches, which stretch from the capital city of Dover south towards the famous Rehoboth, Bethany, and Dewey Beach.

You’ll find more coastal cabins than anywhere else, and each of them has been influenced by its coastal landscape. These coastal homes tend to have a similar wooden exterior to each other with simplistic interiors.

While beach cabins are the most common, you can also find traditional timber cabins in Delaware’s wooded regions. Typically, these will be in or around state parks and will be managed in a resort setting with other cabins in the area.

A cabin is one of the best types of accommodation for a trip to Delaware, primarily because of their secluded locations. Because cabins are located in remote parts of the woods or by the beach, you’ll be guaranteed absolute privacy when you stay in a cabin here.

What to Look for in a Cabin in Delaware

    Delaware Beach

When you book a cabin, you’ll likely be renting an entirely private space, however, you can find cabin bed and breakfasts in Delaware if you’re traveling on a budget. Most cabins come with a self-catering kitchen, living and dining room, porches, and private bedrooms and bathrooms.

Most are located in off-the-beaten-track locations, in private areas, and therefore require a personal vehicle to get there. If you’re visiting as part of an East Coast road trip, check that the property has a private parking space and that the road is accessible by a standard vehicle.

If you’re looking for a cabin to stay in with young kids, look for cabins that come equipped with beach games, kayaks, and other fun toys to use on the beach. Your best bet would be to stay directly on the beachfront to eliminate the need to transport your children and possessions back and forth.

You should also check that the cabin has WiFi and decent cell service, as they are located in remote areas, these are sometimes features that we take for granted and some cabins don’t have.
