If you asked me to describe Istanbul in three words, I’d say vibrant, diverse and fascinating. It is a city that incorporates incredibly diverse cultural and historical influences, along with a vibrant contemporary culture.
Although it is considered European, it is the only city in the world that straddles two continents (Europe and Asia). The Bosporus Strait passes through the city dividing the two – FASCINATING right?!
There is a vibrancy to this city that makes it stand out amongst almost anywhere else I’ve visited, it’s somewhere you just can’t fail to fall in love with. The stunning mix of architectural styles, from Greek to Roman to Arabic and beyond, make a stunning backdrop to your Turkish adventure.
Thankfully, the Airbnbs in Istanbul reflect that charm and charisma. Airbnb rentals in Istanbul at a very high standard. Fortunately for us travellers, they are pretty inexpensive too (don’t worry high-rollers, there are still plenty of luxury options!)
I’ve compiled the best Airbnbs in Istanbul to help you decide where you’re going to stay. Whatever your budget or style – I’ve carefully considered it all, there is a Turkish pad for everyone.
So, let’s get to it. Keep scrollin’ to find my fav rentals in Istanbul.

What to Expect From Airbnbs in Istanbul
Travelling in Istanbul is incredible – the city blends modernity with old-world charm. You won’t find campsites and cabins here, because space is sparse and therefore well-used. Rather, expect well-laid-out apartments, lofts, and the occasional townhouse.
Airbnbs in Istanbul have generally been redone in a beautiful and charming way. They are often in very old buildings as Turkish architecture has been beautifully preserved!
The city is approximately three-thousand-years-old. Although the apartment buildings and houses are nowhere near that age, it does mean that they don’t often have elevators installed. Tbh, I like the authenticity although my knees aren’t always as keen.
Knowing where to stay in Istanbul is essential for a successful trip, as the city is pretty freaking massive! The many different neighbourhoods offer different vibes and attractions.
The 16 Top Airbnbs in Istanbul
Ready to book some of the best accommodation options for staying in Turkey? Here are my top picks of the best Airbnbs in Istanbul, listed and reviewed for you to select your favourite.
Magnificent view in the heart of Galata Tower | Overall Best Value Airbnb
This had got to be the best Airbnb in Istanbul in terms of value for money. If you’re looking to get some bang for your buck, this Airbnb is definitely for you.
With two bedrooms this pad is perfect for a group of friends or a family. The flat is in a convenient location just next to Galata Tower (one of the most famous historical buildings of Istanbul). It’s also close to the Bereketzade Mosque, Saint Peter & Paul Church, Ashkenazi Synagogue and a number of local art galleries.
You’re only four minutes away from the metro and bus stations. So whatever Istanbul itinerary, it’s in a great location. The flat also has an EPIC rooftop with breathtaking views where you can enjoy your breakfast or hang out for a couple of drinks in the evening.
Quiet, comfy apartment | Best Budget Airbnb in Istanbul
If you’re after a comfortable experience while travelling in Turkey, but you’re heading there on a budget, then this is the spot for you. This Airbnb offers an entire apartment, unlike a simple shared bunk bed in a hostel dorm.
There is a fully-equipped kitchen, so you can further your resources by cooking at home. Though I do suggest you get in a little Turkish street food when you can! This Istanbul Airbnb is close to many coffee shops, restaurants and stores along Istiklal Street.
This home is away from the noise and bustle, it is located in a quiet street centre of historical Istanbul. It might be in a quieter area but it’s still a convenient location close to some of Istanbul’s best places to visit. Including Besiktas, Mecidiyeköy and Taksim Square.
We’ve tested countless backpacks over the years, but there’s one that has always been the best and remains the best buy for adventurers: the broke backpacker-approved Osprey Aether and Ariel series.

View on Osprey View on REIPrivate Rooftop with Panoramic Bosphorus View | Over-the-Top Luxury Airbnb
If you’re looking for the absolute best of everything during your stay in Istanbul, this idyllic apartment is it. This gorgeous, spacious Airbnb with epic views is pricey but dreamy.
It boasts some of the best views around, from the living room and the private rooftop. You can soak in the Bridge, Old Town, Maiden’s Tower & Galata Tower View. The fantastic rooftop terrace is God damn gorgeous. It has a comfy sofa, a garden wing, an outdoor bonfire AND A DOME! You could spend hours up there.
The property is huge and is suited to guests across three bedrooms. It is the perfect spot for large families or groups of friends. It also has free parking which is ideal if you hire a car.
Psst…
Industrial Designed Studio in Eminonu | Perfect Istanbul Airbnb for Solo Travelers
This gorgeous loft is stylish and has plenty of amenities to ensure you’re comfortable for a short or long-term stay. It’s small but cosy – it’s ideally suited to a couple or solo traveller.
You’ll be perfectly situated to explore the Old City, and it’s within walking distance of some of the most beautiful places in Turkey. Including Hagia Sophia, the Basilica Cistern and the Blue Mosque! It’s literally in the perfect location to see all the main sights.
However, you might find it difficult to leave this tasteful, insta-worthy apartment and the confines of its comfy bed. When you do you can even cook tasty meals right there or order room service. But don’t get too cosy inside because you really are in an unbeatable location!
White House | Perfect Short-Term Airbnb in Istanbul for Digital Nomads
This gorgeous apartment has everything a digital nomad could need. From speedy Wi-Fi and laptop-friendly workspace to a fully-equipped kitchen and a rooftop terrace to enjoy an after-work beverage.
This Airbnb is in the old Greek Quarter. Just a 15-minute walk to Taksim Square, there are lots of things to do in Istanbul close by. I also love how inexpensive this pretty little apartment is. So you can afford to extend your stay for as long as Istanbul holds your interest. Which I expect could be forever.
Stash your cash safely with this money belt. It will keep your valuables safely concealed, no matter where you go.
It looks exactly like a normal belt except for a SECRET interior pocket perfectly designed to hide a wad of cash, a passport photocopy or anything else you may wish to hide. Never get caught with your pants down again! (Unless you want to…)

Relaxing 2 Bedroom with Balcony
It isn’t always easy to find family-orientated accommodation in this city of culture and history. But if you have children and a baby with you, I know you will want a safe and entertaining space for them.
It’s fully equipped for your family with a crib, baby bath, changer, children’s books and toys, and even table corner guards. The owner is even equipped with babysitter recommendations. The safety features are also top-notch, and there is a first-aid kit provided. So get ready to relax, because your children will be happy and healthy here.
This apartment is in a convenient location just a stone’s throw from Galata Tower and within walking distance of Taksim Square. It’s super easy to explore the city from here!
19th Century Luxury Loft
With 19th-century frescos having been painstakingly restored throughout the spacious loft, you will be transported through time. This loft is so historically gorgeous and unique that it was featured in Art Home Magazine in 2017!
To complement its historical authenticity, there are completely modern amenities. A dreamy kitchen and modern bathroom make this space easy and comfortable, not just beautiful. This loft is also suitable for children, they can be entertained by children’s books, toys and cable TV. There’s even a crib, to make it perfect for new family members.

Galata Fourth Floor Apartment
I know that not everyone wants to jump into the exciting, chaotic world of public transport in Istanbul. But even if you’re fortunate enough to have a car, this city’s accommodation is generally not suited to parking.
So here’s a charming apartment with a wonderful location, and FREE parking is thrown into the bargain. This private apartment offers great value for its location and amenities. If you’re only spending a weekend in Istanbul, this should be your go-to home.
The apartment itself has a warm atmosphere, with designer touches. It’s just two blocks from the busyness of Istiklal Street, but that small separation makes all the difference for peace and quiet.
Stylish Studio Flat
This stylish apartment is minutes away from popular bars like Divan Brasserie and Ravouna 1906 on the ever-exciting Istiklal Street. The apartment is perfect for fun pre-drinks with your friends before you hit the town! I also love that you won’t have to walk up stair upon stair to get to the apartment when you’ve had a few, just hop in the elevator.
Don’t worry about being too hungover to explore your gorgeous area in the morning, as there is a sauna in the apartment. So you can just sweat it out in the morning and then seize the day.
Romantic Bohemian Vibes • Bathtub & Terrace
It is clear from the moment you walk in that this space is a passion project. It’s been created with love in an exclusive boho style and is filled with atypical plants from around the Mediterranean coast. The tropical and natural vibes created by the plants add a peaceful ambience to the space.
The huge, kitted-out kitchen means that you never have to leave the comfort of the house when you have reasons to stay in. But since this house is in upscale Nisantasi, you might want to get out to try the gastronomical delights of the area.
Residence Apartment in Kad?köy
This unique home will lodge itself into your heart immediately. It’s located in the centre of Istanbul close to shopping malls and the entire transportation network. There is an outdoor and indoor swimming pool, Turkish bath, sauna and gym available at this Airbnb – so you will be able to keep fit while travelling on your Turkish getaway.
With two bedrooms, this apartment can host up to four guests comfortably. The interior is decorated beautifully with a light pink and green theme. The apartment has a fully-equipped kitchen and is close to groceries shops so you’ll be able to whip up some epic meals at home.
Boutique Three Floors Art House
If you’ve ever dreamed of the ideal holiday with your best mates, this would be the setting. To share a space like this with your friends while in Istanbul… well, it just doesn’t get much better than that!
Imagine making tapas and cocktails in the downstairs kitchen (yes, there are two), while listening to your favourite tunes. Perhaps eating outside in the garden and then choosing a film to watch in the glass-ceilinged lounge.
If you want to hit the town next, the Cihangir neighbourhood is ideally placed for all sorts of adventures. This has got to be up there with one of the best Airbnbs in Turkey – you can’t go wrong booking in here.
Cozy Luxury Flat in the Heart of Suadiye
This first-floor flat is easily accessible to anyone. There is an elevator so it’s wheelchair friendly. There is also a disabled parking spot, a well-lit entrance, and wide doorways and passages. So the stress of access is completely removed from your stay.
It is also a minimalist, stylish flat that is well-equipped for your comfort, so you won’t be compromising on anything important to you! The apartment is located on a quiet side street near the popular Bagdat Street. Here there are some really wonderful restaurants, such as Brasserie Noir and Kofteci Sukru.
The First Ottoman Dream
You will feel right at home in these comfortable apartments. There are multiple on offer in various sizes so whether you’re travelling in a group, couple or solo – there will be a room for you.
The apartments are located in a pretty lively area in the centre of Old Istanbul. The Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque and Ava Sofya are just a 15-minute walk away and the Grand Bazaar is just 5 minutes.
All the rooms are big, clean, comfy and have air conditioning. The fantastic rooftop terrace is the perfect place to enjoy your breakfast with a view of the sea in the morning. Not bloody bad if you ask me!
6 Apartment Galata
These apartments are ideal, they are in a convenient location just behind the Galata Tower. Just a few minutes from all the great historical spots including Spice Bazaar, Istiklal Street and Taksim Square. The host is super lovely and does everything they can to make sure you have a comfortable stay.

So grab a couple of mates, or your whole family, for a living experience that is as much of an adventure as your explorations of the city. It is perfectly situated in the tourist district, right on Istiklal Street. So, while you will feel like you’re living in a bygone era already, you’ll easily be able to explore everything else this ancient city has to offer.
Airbnb Experiences in Istanbul
Do you fancy a day trip to go with that nice little apartment?!
Airbnb Experiences is a feature offered by Airbnb that allows hosts to offer unique, curated activities to guests – or to anyone who’s interested in, even if they’re not staying at an Airbnb property. These experiences can range from cooking classes and guided tours to art workshops, outdoor adventures, and more.
Airbnb Experiences was created to offer travellers a deeper connection with a destination by offering truly unique experiences, all led by locals who are both knowledgeable and passionate about their city.
Some personal highlights of my Airbnb Experiences include a tapas bar-crawl in Granada, a Samurai workshop in Kyoto, and a graffiti spotting bike ride around Bogota.
Hot Air Balloon Flight in Cappadocia
Cappadocia’s lunar landscapes can’t be truly appreciated until you’ve seen them from above. Well, I hope you aren’t afraid of heights as this 2.5-hour experience offers an unforgettable opportunity to soar over the stunning fairy chimneys and breathtaking valleys of Cappadocia. This magical hot-air balloon ride includes hotel pickup, a light breakfast, and a celebratory champagne toast upon landing.
Bosphorus Yacht Tour with Wine & Music
Cruise the Bosphorus in style on a luxurious yacht, passing iconic palaces and bridges. What better way to spend our evening than sipping wine, enjoying snacks, and relaxing with music as you take in breathtaking views of Istanbul’s skyline? It’s a perfect, peaceful way to experience the city from the water.
Traditional Turkish Dinner and Dervish Experience
There is no better way to understand a country than diving into the culture with an energetic evening of traditional dining and a live Whirling Dervish performance. Set in a historic venue, this immersive experience offers a vibrant chance to enjoy authentic Turkish food while learning about Sufism and its spiritual significance through music and movement.
What To Pack For Istanbul
Pants, socks, underwear, soap?! Take it from me, packing for an Airbnb stay is not always quite as straightforward as it seems. Working out what to bring and what to leave at home is an art I have perfected over many years.
Ear Plugs
Snoring dorm-mates can ruin your nights rest and seriously damage the hostel experience. This is why I always travel with a pack of decent ear plugs.
Hanging Laundry Bag
Trust us, this is an absolute game changer. Super compact, a hanging mesh laundry bag stops your dirty clothes from stinking, you don’t know how much you need one of these… so just get it, thank us later.
Sea To Summit Micro Towel
Hostel towels are scummy and take forever to dry. Microfibre towels dry quickly, are compact, lightweight, and can be used as a blanket or yoga mat if need be.
Monopoly Deal
Forget about Poker! Monopoly Deal is the single best travel card game that we have ever played. Works with 2-5 players and guarantees happy days.
Grayl Geopress Water Bottle
Always travel with a water bottle! They save you money and reduce your plastic footprint on our planet. The Grayl Geopress acts as a purifier AND temperature regulator. Boom!
FAQs about Airbnbs in Istanbul
Here’s what people usually ask me about Airbnb rentals in Istanbul.
Don’t Forget Your Istanbul Travel Insurance
You never think you’ll need insurance… until you do. Grabbing yourself some good travel insurance is essential before you head on your trip to Istanbul.
ALWAYS sort out your backpacker insurance before your trip. There’s plenty to choose from in that department, but a good place to start is Safety Wing.
They offer month-to-month payments, no lock-in contracts, and require absolutely no itineraries: that’s the exact kind of insurance long-term travellers and digital nomads need.
SafetyWing is cheap, easy, and admin-free: just sign up lickety-split so you can get back to it!

Final Thoughts on the Best Istanbul Airbnbs
Istanbul is an incredibly rich and diverse city, and the Airbnbs found there to reflect that. I love that they are all generally very well situated in the best, most popular neighbourhoods in the city.
The quality of the Airbnbs in Istanbul is really high and many of the properties have reviews to back them. You might have to climb a few flights of stairs to get to your apartment, but it’s always worth it.
And as many of the best Airbnbs in Istanbul have uniquely Turkish aspects to them, and many local details, even staying in gives you an experience of Turkish culture!
If you’re still unsure where to stay, I’d recommend going with my top value-for-money Airbnb Magnificent view in the heart of Galata Tower. It’s a great location, close to some of the most iconic historic landmarks and has rooftop terrace views. You can’t go wrong with this two-bedroom Airbnb.
