Why Should You Consider a Yoga Retreat in Colorado?
Okay, so if you’ve never experienced a yoga retreat before get ready to strap in because I consider myself a yoga retreat connoisseur.
Firstly, yoga retreats are designed for you to escape from your modern life and ultimately avoid your responsibilities for a little bit. You may be starting to see why I love them so much.
It goes far beyond just your regular yoga or meditation class and instead invites you to slow down your travels, reflect, and appreciate the power that your body holds.
Alongside yoga, you will also have access to a wide range of activities. Some of which are seriously once-in-a-lifetime type of things. But I will get to that later.
Additionally, you will have access to often vegan and organic meals which will be shared with a new group of people that will soon become your new besties.
Now, yoga retreats are great but they will not cure all of your struggles or battles in life. They will offer a huge fresh perspective on them, though.
Yoga retreats truly offer you so much for both your mind and body. It’s almost a guarantee that you will leave the experience feeling energized and ready to continue with your goals for the year.
What Can You Expect from a Yoga Retreat in Colorado?
My expectations going into these yoga retreats in Colorado were actually kind of low. Often yoga retreats in the USA, or the UK, can be a little, let’s say, basic. However, I was pleasantly impressed by the wide variety of activities you can try at these retreats.
Of course, yoga is going to play a huge role in these retreats. Meditation and other foundational spiritual practices will also be included.
However, due to Colorado having some pretty amazing mountains, you will also be doing a lot of hiking. During these hikes, you will visit hot springs and explore other unique locations in Colorado.
Other practices such as horseback riding, kayaking, and stargazing are also included in some of these retreats.
As for places to stay in Colorado, you can expect to stay in mountain lodges with some pretty top-tier views. I mean what else would you expect from the best yoga retreats in Colorado? Some of the accommodation options also have access to a sauna or even a swimming pool.
As I mentioned before, your yoga retreat experience will be topped off with access to delicious healthy meals. All of these are designed to make you feel energized and ready to take on your next day full of activities.
How to Choose the Right Yoga Retreat in Colorado for You?
None of these retreats offer anything that’s going to put you completely out of your comfort zone.
What I’m trying to say is that you’re not going to be thrown into the deep end of an intense spiritual ceremony while here. That being said, you will need to determine how active you want to be on this retreat.
Some of these retreats have a packed itinerary filled with some of the best things to do in Colorado. You may find yourself hiking one minute and horse riding the next.
Whereas other retreats embrace a more slow-paced life. On these retreats, you’ll find yourself taking casual hikes, exploring the nearby towns, and appreciating nature.
The next thing you’ll need to consider is how much time you can take away from your responsibilities to go on this retreat.
Look, nobody wants to talk about this, but the last thing you want to do is disappear on retreat and come back to a bunch of stress.
Most of these retreats range from three to five days, so you’ll need to decide how many days you can take being disconnected.
Admittedly, most of these retreats are for female travelers so if you are a male reading this, then your choices will be slightly limited.
Location
With such beautiful mountains, it’s easy to understand why all the best yoga retreats in Colorado are hosted in or near them. Which you will either love or hate.
The mountainous landscapes will make you feel completely off-grid which usually helps to promote a sense of relaxation. They will also make for some of the best hikes in the USA.
If you don’t love the idea of being disconnected, then you may want to select a retreat that offers day trips into the nearby towns. However, for the most part, you may have to just embrace it!
Practices
In terms of spiritual practices, you may find yourself in yoga classes, meditation sessions, and the occasional Reiki practice.
Of course, yoga will also be a priority. All of the retreats welcome beginners and often teach both foundational yoga styles (Nidra Yoga and Yin Yoga) and more advanced yoga styles (Ashtanga Yoga). You can choose to sit out of the more advanced classes if they are too challenging. But why not give it a go?
Other practices mentioned in these retreats include holistic treatments. This can be anything from acupuncture to energy healing sessions. I actually regularly go to acupuncture sessions and they have changed my life! If you get the opportunity to try it out, I would recommend you do it!
I’m not 100% sure if these activities fall under ‘practices,’ but these retreats are also filled with much more adventurous events.
This can include invigorating mountainous hikes, scenic kayaking trips, or horse riding through the Rocky Mountains. You’ll also have the opportunity to bathe in hot Springs and visit the local town.
One thing for sure is, that your trip to the USA will be will be unforgettable.
Price
The prices of all of these retreats are pretty much what you would expect from a three to five-day experience.
The shorter retreats offer less practice but are more affordable. Whereas the longer, more intense retreats will cost you a little bit more.
Other factors such as the accommodation and events (like, day trips) will also play a huge role in the price.
Your best bet is to determine your budget ahead of time and narrow down the retreats based on that.
Perks
To briefly explain what perks are, they are extras that you can add to your yoga retreat experience for an additional cost.
Now, these retreats are already pretty jam-packed, so you may find yourself not even having time to add other perks.
However, the perks mainly consist of spa treatments.
Some of the retreats also offer one-to-one coaching sessions as well as energy healing sessions.
If you have a particular treatment or service in mind, you could always contact the retreat host to find out if they’re happy to arrange that for you.
Duration
These retreats range from three to five days in length which is pretty normal for a retreat.
Due to the short length of these retreats, it’s recommended to turn up on the starting date and leave on the end date just so that you get the most possible out of the experience.
Trust me, even a five-day retreat experience will fly by when your schedule is this packed.
You can find value in both three-day and five-day retreats. However, it kind of goes without saying that you’ll get to experience way more the longer that you are there.
