What To Pack For Taupo

Pants, socks, underwear, soap?! Take it from me, packing for a hostel stay is not always quite as straightforward as it seems. Working out what to bring and what to leave at home is an art I have perfected over many years.

You can spend days researching safety statistics, travel only to the safest destinations, or pay extra money to fly with the best of the best airlines. Still, you’re never totally safe from the unexpected.

Even though Taupo is by and large a very safe place to stay, you should consider purchasing good travel insurance.

ALWAYS sort out your backpacker insurance before your trip. There’s plenty to choose from in that department, but a good place to start is Safety Wing.

They offer month-to-month payments, no lock-in contracts, and require absolutely no itineraries: that’s the exact kind of insurance long-term travellers and digital nomads need.

Final Thoughts on Where to Stay in Taupo

I honestly don’t know if you can go wrong when choosing where to stay in Taupo, the area is just so stunning and full of things to do.

Whether you prefer a lakeside retreat or a budget-friendly hostel, you’ll be surrounded by beautiful scenery and have easy access to all the adventures Taupo has to offer.

But I have to say my experience in Finlay Jacks backpackers truly made my time in Taupo so memorable. I met other travelers, got great tips from the friendly staff, and saved some money by staying in a shared room. But be prepared to stay longer than you intended. Taupo has a way of sucking you in like that.
