Crystal clear waters, Byzantine footpaths that lead into quaint mountain villages, olive groves and fishing ports, I can only be describing a remote Greek island.

Paros island, situated in the Cyclades, consists of pristine golden beaches, party towns, and quirky mountain villages. This island is starting to rival Mykonos and Santorini as one of the best Greek Islands to visit, and it’s easy to see why. This island offers something for the honeymooners, the backpackers, the families and the cat enthusiasts.

Paros is a great destination for tourists, but what I loved most about this island is the slow-paced lifestyle, mixed with a rich local culture.

Because this island is less known than some of the others, you might have trouble finding where to stay in Paros. That’s why I’ve created this neighborhood guide to help you find the best places to stay to suit your travel budget and style.

What’s the best area to stay in Paros?

Parikia, one of the main towns, is the best place to stay in Paros if you’re travelling on a budget. It’s where the main port is, as well as where you’ll find most of the nightlife. You can easily find nice shops, restaurants and white-sand beaches in Parikia, too. If you’re looking for somewhere a little quieter and off the beaten track, I recommend heading up into the mountains and staying in Lefkes. You’re more likely to escape the crowds and admire local life in Lefkes.

What are the best beaches in Paros?

Paros has so many gorgeous beaches to choose from; there’s a beach to satisfy everyone on this island. One of my favourites is Mini Santa Maria Beach, which is situated about 10 minutes from Nouassa. You can spend the day swimming in the clear waters, exploring the caves and relaxing. If you’re looking for something different and off the beaten track, Kalogeros Beach is a good choice. Instead of white sands, you’ll find clay mud – but it’s a great excuse to spend the afternoon exfoliating.

Is Paros easy to travel to?

YES- it’s convenient and safe to travel to Paros. Just hop on a ferry from Mykonos and enjoy the boat ride there. The Cyclades are great for island hopping in general, and if you pack the right stuff, you can spend well over a month exploring these islands.

Final Thoughts on Where to Stay in Paros

Sometimes, the best holiday locations are those not everyone talks about. Paros is generally a quieter destination, although the best time to visit Greece to avoid tourist crowds is usually between September and May.

I travelled to Paros from Mykonos at the end of May, and the difference between the Cycladean islands was immense. Mykonos was touristy, expensive, and packed, but Paros offered a quieter, more authentic, affordable haven.

In Paros, you’ll be greeted with gorgeous sandy beaches, fascinating architecture and an abundance of restaurants. One of my favourite beaches was Livadia Beach, I spent a few days swimming in the the crystal clear waters and reading my book there.

If you’re still unsure where to stay, you can’t go wrong with Lefkes Village! It’s affordable and has everything you need for a comfortable stay.

Whether you’re staying for a couple of days or longer, I hope this guide has helped you narrow down your options for where to stay in Paros.

All that’s left to do now is pick one and get packing!
