Where is the Best Place to Stay in Beni Mellal?
Beni Mellal is by no means a massive city, with a population of around 200,000 people. Having said this, it also isn’t teeming with accommodation and the choices can be somewhat limited.
BUT I’ve still managed to find some pretty epic places for you to stay in, should you find yourself passing through the city, which honestly, I highly recommend if you’re backpacking in Morocco.
Here are a few of my top picks for accommodation in Beni Mellal:

Hotel Cafe Palais Salam is the ideal spot for those with families who are deciding on where to stay in Beni Mellal. Family rooms are the order of the day with plenty of space to pile in mom, dad, the kids, and even the grandparents.
Widiane Resort | Best Luxury Accommodation in Beni Mellal
Widiane Resort is an absolute gem of a spot, complete with a helipad, infinity pool, and incredible views. It really is the epitome of luxury and should be on your radar when visiting Beni Mellal. There are also two parts to choose from – modern and traditional so you’re spoilt for choice! It’s one of the best places to stay in Morocco.

Beni Mellal Neighborhood Guide – Best Places to Stay in Beni Mellal
Quartier Al Ouafae
First up is the vibrant, residential neighbourhood of Quartier Al Ouafae, centrally located in Beni Mellal. It is home to a rather diverse community, blending both traditional and modern housing, making it the perfect place for first-timers to the city.
Jnan-Taher
Jnan-Taher is the second neighbourhood that I’d recommend when deciding on where to stay in Beni Mellal. The name “Jnan-Taher” roughly translates to “pure/clean garden” which is reflected in the number of surrounding green spaces in the neighbourhood.
Bab Ftouh
Last and certainly not least is Bab Ftouh, one of the most culturally and historically significant neighbourhoods in Beni Mellal.
Now, the city of Beni Mellal is divided into several neighbourhoods, as with basically every city in the world. Each offers its own character and charm, therefore bringing a unique aspect to your stay.
Each neighbourhood also shows the diversity of the city, with its own blend of both tradition and modernity. With this, you can expect a great mix of living environments to choose from, whether it’s something more lively and bustling or something more relaxed and serene.
I’ve chosen three neighbourhoods in Beni Mellal that I feel best represent the city, each offering its own unique charm and attractions. And of course, some great places to stay, which is one of the main reasons why we’re here.

If you’re visiting the city for the first time, then I would say that Quartier Al Ouafae (and surrounds) is probably one of the best areas to stay in. It’s pretty central and bustling with shops, restaurants, cafes, various services, and local businesses. I guess the operative word here is convenience.
Bab Ftouh (and surrounds) is the ideal spot for families visiting the city given its proximity to the famous Ain Asserdoun Park. It’s also favoured by those who are looking for a more relaxed vibe, with its tranquil and serene surroundings, lush greenery, and of course, stunning views.
Lastly, Jnan-Taher (and surrounds) is great for those who need help deciding on where to stay in Beni Mellal while travelling on a budget. Located in the south of the city, Jnan-Taher has a number of more budget-friendly places to choose from which speaks to the cash-conscious traveler.
Right, now that should give you a pretty solid base to work with. But luckily that’s not all – I’ve gone a bit further and found some of the best places to stay in each area for your travelling convenience. Don’t say I don’t have your back!
Beni Mellal’s Three Best Neighborhoods to Stay in
Right, let’s now take a look at each of the neighborhoods in a bit more detail as well as some top accommodation choices. There are also some recommended things to do when visiting each area so you’ll have plenty to work with.
1. Quartier Al Ouafae (and surrounds) – Best Place to Stay in Beni Mellal for Your First Time
First up is the vibrant, residential neighbourhood of Quartier Al Ouafae, centrally located in Beni Mellal. It is home to a rather diverse community, blending both traditional and modern housing, making it the perfect place for first-timers to the city.
There are plenty of local shops, restaurants, and transport links so it’s perfectly located to explore the rest of the city and surrounds. Although slightly urbanised, it still retains its sense of Moroccan heritage which is what people like myself wish to experience in a new city.
Not only is it well-located within the city, but it’s also within close proximity to other key landmarks in Beni Mellal and its surrounds. Think: the Atlas Mountains and the Ain Asserdoun Spring.
Hôtel Hadaik Ain Asserdoune | Best Hotel in Quartier Al Ouafa
Hôtel Hadaik Ain Asserdoune is definitely more traditional in its decoration and overall aesthetic, with simple yet perfectly equipped rooms. There’s a beautiful garden on-site if you wish to tap into your zen side as well as a terrace for those morning or evening chill sessions. The hotel restaurant also serves up some mean local cuisine so you don’t have to go mission to find the good stuff.
Widiane Resort | Best Luxury Accommodation in Quartier Al Ouafae
Widiane Resort boasts the coveted 5-star status and it’s easy to see why. I mean, if a helipad and infinity pool don’t scream luxury, then I’m not sure what does! Well, how about the incredible views of the Atlas Mountains and the Bin el Ouidane lake? Now we’re talking!
The hotel is also interestingly split into two parts – the Kasbah and the Source. The former is more traditional in decor and decoration, while the latter is more modern in its finishes. There are also several restaurants on-site, serving both traditional and modern cuisine. You’re really spoilt for choice!
Hotel VELSATIS | Best Bnb in Quartier Al Ouafa
Let’s face it, all we really need is a comfortable, clean place to rest our weary heads at night after a busy day of exploring. Hotel Velsatis is just that, with the added advantage of having a pretty decent breakfast included in your stay. On top of that, the AC will keep you cool in summer and the restaurant will take care of all those grumbling tummy needs throughout the day.
Things to See and Do in Quartier Al Ouafa
- Shop for traditional spices, produce, and goods at the local market (souk)
- Try some local pastries and a cup of mint tea as you watch the world pass you by
- Take a walk through the back streets as you admin the architecture and the local way of life
- Sample the local cuisine with the likes of couscous, tagine, and pastilla
- Spoil yourself with a variety of treatments at the Golden Gym and Spa
- Visit the House of Culture and immerse yourself in the, well, local culture!

Jnan-Taher is the second neighbourhood that I’d recommend when deciding on where to stay in Beni Mellal. The name “Jnan-Taher” roughly translates to “pure/clean garden” which is reflected in the number of surrounding green spaces in the neighbourhood.
Like many other neighbourhoods in the city, Jnan-Taher is part of the ever-growing urban environment yet still remains true to its roots. It’s the perfect blend of the historical and cultural side of Morocco and the new, modern development that the city is experiencing.
It’s definitely more of a residential neighbourhood that is often quieter than some surrounding areas. There is an overall mix of local businesses, green spaces, and of course, residential buildings that come together harmoniously in one peaceful neighbourhood. If you’re looking for an area that has a good selection of budget accommodation, then Jnan-Taher is the spot for you!
Appartement Ain Asserdoun | Best Apartment in Jnan-Taher
Appartement Ain Asserdoun is a great little spot for those who are seeking the comforts of their own private space. The room is spacious and fully equipped with everything you’ll need, from a kitchen and dining area to a living room with a TV. It’s essentially a home away from home – and a steal for what you pay!
Relax by the waterfalls Apartment Beni Mellal | Best Budget Accommodation in Jnan-Taher
Right, just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, this gem of a spot shows face! At $25 a night, you can see why it takes the cake for best budget accommodation. The location is also great, within close proximity to the famous Asserdoun waterfalls as well as the local parks. There are also plenty of local restaurants and cafes close by if you’re not in the mood to utilise the fully-equipped kitchen. Easy like Sunday.
Entire serviced apartment | Best Airbnb in Jnan-Taher
This is another great spot that is a proper bang for your buck. It comes in at less than $30 a night for an entire apartment that can sleep up to two people. I mean, come on, that’s decent! The space is fully equipped and even boasts epic views of the Atlas Mountains. Plus it’s only five minutes from the city – location, location, location! This is a gorgeous Airbnb in Morocco.
Things to See and Do in Jnan-Taher
- Take advantage of the local parks by enjoying a leisurely stroll or simply finding a bench and relaxing
- Explore the local streets on foot and discover the local culture by interacting with the locals
- Head to the famous Ain Asserdoun viewpoint and take in the stunning panoramic views of the city
- Buy some textiles from one of the local souks to take back to your home country and get yourself a garment made
- Head to Khenifra for some local hiking in the stunning Atlas Mountains
- Head out of the city and explore the local Berber villages at the foothills of the Middle Atlas Mountains
3. Bab Ftouh (and surrounds) – Best Neighborhood in Beni Mellal for Families to Stay In
Last and certainly not least is Bab Ftouh, one of the most culturally and historically significant neighbourhoods in Beni Mellal. The neighbourhood is named after the Bab Ftouh gate which is one of the most historical gates in Beni Mellal. The gate itself served as a key entrance to the city and the area around it carries significant cultural importance.

The neighborhood itself is one of the older parts of the city and as such, reflects traditional Moroccan urban design. Characteristic by narrow streets and old buildings, Bab Ftouh is an amazing part of the city to stay in for families visiting the city. It is close to key attractions in the city and surrounds including some of the local markets and other public spaces.
HOTEL CAFE PALAIS SALAM | Best Hotel in Bab Ftouh
The best part about Hotel Cafe Palais Salam is that they have family rooms available which fits right in with being the perfect area for families in Beni Mellal.
There are even suites available which can sleep up to four guests, across two bedrooms. Double bed for mom and dad and two single beds for the kids. Oh, and there’s also a great breakfast included for the duration of your stay – one less thing to worry about.
Palm House | Best Bnb in Bab Ftouh
Palm House is a great setup that offers uninterrupted views of the distant Atlas Mountains that can be enjoyed from both the terrace and the balcony. You’ll also have a fully-equipped kitchen to prepare your own meals if you don’t wish to indulge in the local cuisine. Overall, it’s spacious, clean, and comfortable – what more do you need?
La Maison Attawba | Best Apartment in Bab Ftouh
Last but certainly not least, is La Maison Attawba, and probably my favourite spot in Bab Ftouh. The three-bedroom luxury apartment is the ideal space for a family and there’s plenty of space for everyone to sleep. There’s also more than enough space to entertain and the balcony offers views over the city.

- Visit the Bab Ftouh gate to snap a few pictures and take in some of the history of Beni Mellal
- Explore Beni Mellal’s Kasbah and its winding alleyways, traditional architecture, and panoramic views
- Tap into your cultural side and visit the Regional Museum of Beni Mellal
- Take a day trip out to the Ouzoud Waterfalls and immerse yourself in nature, hike, and even swim
- Visit the Tizgzaouine Village on the outskirts of the city and interact with the locals
- Get your zen on in the Khnifra Forest as you absorb the natural beauty and discover the diverse local wildlife
