What to Expect from Vineyard Accommodation in Martinborough

If you’ve travelled to New Zealand, you’ve probably noticed it does pretty well in the scenery department. If fact, I’d go as far as saying it boasts some of the best landscapes in the world. The area of Martinborough is no exception, it is seriously beautiful.

Home to sparse green landscapes that seem to go on for days, rows of vines and olive trees and a small-town vibe that keeps you coming back for more. Even if you’re not heading there for a New Zealand wine tour, Martinborough is still worth a visit (but you should definitely visit a winery, or two).

The vineyards in Martinborough are so close to one another that they can be explored by bike! Of course, staying near (or on) your favourite vineyard is a smart move. But whichever you choose, you won’t be far from being able to sample all the good drops in the area.

The vineyard accommodations in Martinborough (also known as wine stays) are pretty diverse. There is a mix of cottages, villas and homes – all located in working Vineyards. How freaking cool is that??

Wake up to a view of the vines before heading to the first tasting of the day… Dreamy.

The wine stays are mostly locally run by the owners of the vineyard who are usually excited to share all about the area and their incredible wines. Many of the vineyard stays come with breakfast supplies and some even come with a cheeky bottle of their finest wine! Wine stays are one of the most unique (and coolest) places to stay in New Zealand.

Best Time to Visit the Wineries in Martinborough

The best time to visit New Zealand and its wineries is during the summer months (December-March). Who doesn’t love a cheeky wine in the sun? Over the summer, the vibes are high in New Zealand and the sun is (usually) shining.

Many of the wineries and Martinborough accommodations offer gorgeous outdoor areas that are perfect for soaking in the sunshine. Whether that’s a BBQ decking around or beautiful lush gardens – these are best enjoyed over the summer.

However, many of the stays are equipped with fireplaces – so I wouldn’t say no to a winter trip either. A Pinot Noir in the cosy wine cellars also sounds pretty damn inviting too.

Martinborough is located on the north island of New Zealand, just up from Wellington. Many Wellingtonians or people visiting Wellington head up to enjoy the wineries and luscious shine over the weekend and holidays. This can mean the area gets pretty busy during these times!
