Do you like Kuta but want to avoid the crowds? If you’re willing to go a little further up the island’s west coast, then Seminyak might just be the place for you. Famed for its relaxed nightlife where you can enjoy a cocktail with your feet in the sand.

Rather than be out all night at a club (although that’s possible too), you can enjoy delicious restaurants, or sit back on the beach.

But what about when it comes to where to stay in Seminyak? Just because it is one of the more upmarket destinations in Bali, it doesn’t mean that you can’t get a great budget deal on your accommodation. That’s where I come in!

I’m here to give you the low down on the hostel scene. We all know hostels are where to stay to save cash and meet fellow broke backpackers. Seminyak is no different, but there are a few special ones.

I’m going to run you through my top five Seminyak hostels to stay in, in detail. Plus I’ve got a few extra in case because I’m here to hunt these hostels out so you don’t have to. I’ve taken into account a range of different travel styles, personalities, but most importantly –budget.

So, let’s get into it!

The 5 Best Hostels in Seminyak

There are tons of awesome places in Seminyak, so decide where to stay before you arrive. Seminyak gets busy in its tourist season – don’t miss out!

1. Capsule Hotel Bali – New Seminyak – Best Overall Hostel in Seminyak

Photos of Capsule Hotel Bali - New Seminyak. Outdoor pool area.
  • Dorm (mixed): From $8
  • Address: Jl. Beraban No 20, Banjar Taman Seminyak, North Kuta, Bali, Seminyak, Indonesia

I’m going to kick off my list of the best hostels in Seminyak with one of the best hostels in Bali – the Capsule Hotel. Don’t be fooled by the hotel in the name, this is a hostel through and through! If you’re expecting a quiet yoga retreat though, this isn’t the place for you.

It’s unashamedly a party hostel – but you’re sure to love the bar, daily DJ parties, and other activities. There’s always heaps happening at this hostel in Seminyak which is why it’s my number one pick. If you like cheap cocktails by night and exploring by day, you’re sure to find your crew here among the other guests.

Why you’ll love this hostel:

  • Free Wifi
  • Airport Transfers
  • Air Conditioning

The comfy pod dorms mean that you get privacy, with the choice of different types of dorm rooms. There are capsule dorms with pod beds and for those who don’t mind spending a little more, deluxe private rooms. If you like an early night make sure you book a room on the third floor – the first floor is for partying!

Then the swimming pool… Where you can cool off, escape your hangover and start your next session. There’s a pool party on Tuesday nights which you can get around, an easy way to meet some new people. If you want to venture further, rent a scooter and you can get anywhere in five minutes.

2. Rodin Bali Hostel Seminyak – Best Hostel in Seminyak for Solo Travelers

Rodin Bali Hostel Seminyak
  • Dorm (mixed): From $4
  • Private Room: From $15
  • Address: 19 Jalan Gunung Payung II, 80119 Seminyak, Indonesia

Rodin Bali Hostel Seminyak is a big vibe for solo travellers. If you’re anything like me you like having somewhere quiet to come home to. There’s a sweet shared lounge set up to meet other guests – the perfect balance!

This hostel is located perfectly for exploring up the coast towards Berawa Beach and north to Echo Beach. The dorms sleep between four and six which is a pretty sweet spot between a good night’s sleep and making new friends. This hostel is a great place to base yourself if you’re on the fence between Kuta and further north.

Why you’ll love this hostel:

  • Boutique Hostel
  • Free Wifi
  • Air Conditioning

A clean and chill hostel, this is a great place to hang out and enjoy your own company. Located in Seminyak Petitenget Temple is reachable within 5.9 km. Rodin Bali Hostel Seminyak is honestly the perfect place to stay for your first couple of days in Bali while you suss the vibe.

They’re only six kilometres from Ngurah Rai International Airport too so getting there is easy and pretty hassle-free. I always recommend getting in touch with the hostel for airport transfers or advice on the best way to get between the hostel and the airport. You’re close to Kuta if you need any essentials too!

3. Sunshot Hostel – Best Cheap Hostel in Seminyak

Sunshot Hostel Seminyak Indonesia
  • Dorm (mixed): From $6
  • Address: Jl. Dewi Sri No.77, Kabupaten Badung, Seminyak, Indonesia

Sunshot Hostel Seminyak welcomes guests to their boutique hostel in a rooftop setting in Seminyak. Sounds boujee right? It’s cheap AF.

Perfect for my fellow broke backpackers looking to save those rupiahs and extend that visa! Close to Sunset Road, Sunshot Hostel is in an epic central location to check out the Bukit and other areas while basing yourself in Seminyak. Guests are invited to the free dinners daily and I’m sure you’ll be making yourself at home – hostels like this are hard to leave.

Why you’ll love this hostel:

  • Shared Lounge
  • Located in a great place
  • Easy access to Ngurah Rai International Airport

There is everything you could possibly want in a home-away-from-home – there’s a kitchen, hot showers and an epic outdoor rooftop terrace. Located a wee way from Seminyak Beach, but that’s kind of to be expected for the price. Sunshot Hostel Seminyak offers scooter rentals so you can go to all the beaches you want, Berawa Beach and Legian Beach are each about 15 minutes away.

There’s a six-bed female-only dorm and an eight and a 20-bed dorm as well as private rooms. I recommend booking in advance if you want a small dorm room or a female-only one. Each of the rooms has air conditioning and the beds have privacy curtains and reading lights.

4. Bali Stellar Capsules – Best Party Hostel in Seminyak

Bali Stellar Capsules Seminyak Indonesia
  • Dorm (mixed): From $8
  • Address: Gang Kahyangan No. 4A, Jalan Drupadi, Seminyak, Indonesia

Bali Stellar Capsules Hostel Seminyak will take you on a trip to outer space – or at least outer Seminyak! They run daily activities which can be an exploration of the local area, drinking games, parties or all of the above.

This is my kind of party hostel vibe, what’s not to love? I can’t answer that one, but I’m sure you’ll love the chilled-out swimming pool which has a bit of shade from the hot Bali sun.

Capsule hostels are quite the thing in Bali, and why not?! You’re not the only one wanting to take a trip to Bali and capsule hostels are an efficient way to store people. This awesome Seminyak hostel offers you the chance of your own private space coupled with the cheap prices and sociable atmosphere of your regular hostel.

Why you’ll love this hostel:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Shared Lounge
  • Free Wifi

There’s a late check-out at Bali Stellar Capsules Hostel Seminyak which is ideal for anyone but especially if you’ve been partying. There’s a bar on-site to get the party started and you can cruise up the coast to Echo Beach for a beach party… Or, get exploring Legian Beach and Kuta to the south – a great place to party.

This boutique hostel is just a 15-minute walk from Seminyak Beach, right in the thick of Party Central and easy access to Kuta. If you’re looking to party and not just hit cheap cocktails at happy hour, that’s where you want to go. The clubs in Kuta have cheap cocktails always and are a foolproof party plan always.

These guys are about a 20-minute drive from the airport, depending on traffic (of course – it’s Bali!) and offer airport transfers. One less thing to admin amiright?! There’s Luggage storage if you want to stash your shit and hit Seminyak beach one more time before you bounce.

5. White Penny Hostel – Best Hostel For Digital Nomads in Seminyak

White Penny Hostel bali
  • Dorm (mixed): From $16
  • Private Room: From $91
  • Address: No.5, Jl. Pura Telaga Waja, Seminyak, Seminyak, Indonesia

Looking for somewhere to tap away on your laptop and comfortably lay your head? I’ve got you. White Penny Hostel Seminyak has comfortable, spacious rooms, perfect if you need to zone into your own space and get shit done.

White Penny is the new kid on the block in Seminyak. The MO at White Penny Hostel is “family to all travellers” and that’s the truth. This is the perfect spot to stay if you’re a solo traveller, an adventure frother, or smashing out some work before sipping margs at Potato Head.

Why you’ll love this hostel:

  • Comfortable, clean rooms
  • Located in the heart of Seminyak
  • Walking Distance to the beach

White Penny is a noticeably clean boutique hostel and has private air-conditioned rooms, female-only dorms and mixed dorms. You can choose to have breakfast included in your room rate or, there’s a restaurant and bar on-site to keep you sustained. I love sitting here to mix it up from working in my room – people-watching provides inspiration (and a bit of distraction). It’s all about balance!

When you’re done with work for the day, jump in the shower and feel fresh and ready for whatever the night brings. White Penny is within walking distance from all the Seminyak hot spots; think Mexicola, Shishi, The Forge, Biku, Sisterfields, Mrs Sippy, etc.

Or, if hopping into your sexy clean bed for an early night is more your jam, wander across the road for sunset at Petitenget Beach. I don’t blame you, sometimes the most fun you can have is between the sheets!

Want to Stay in Canggu instead?

Tribal Hostel – Bali’s first purpose-built co-working hostel and perhaps the greatest hostel in the world! This hostel isn’t in Seminyak – it’s actually in Pererenan – but it’s my top choice of where to stay in Bali.

Photos of Beji Ayu Homestay. Double private room
  • Private Room: From $16
  • Address: Jalan Beji Ayu I / 2, Seminyak, Indonesia

If you travel to Seminyak with your other half, then a sweaty, smelly, and noisy dorm room just isn’t going to cut it. That doesn’t mean you have to blow the bank on a luxury resort though (don’t let the ‘you would if you really loved me’ line sway you). Enter this lush homestay (not a hostel), Beji Ayu Homestay offers romance on a budget, with private double rooms.

Each of the private rooms come with terraces or balconies. There’s even a hot tub here which you can enjoy with a glass of wine or a beer. What’s more, if you’re doing a Bali road trip, you’ll be pleased to know there’s free private parking on offer here.

Photos of M Boutique Hostel Seminyak people hanging out in the outdoor pool.
  • Dorm (mixed): From $7
  • Address: Jl.Petitenget no.8 M, Kerobokan, Seminyak, Seminyak, Indonesia

The first hostel I ever stayed in on my first-ever solo travel adventure was M Boutique Hostel in Seminyak. Here, you have a chance to meet like-minded travellers at another boutique-style hostel, which comes without the large price tag. And you get a lot of bang for your buck too – the swimming pool is surrounded by a terrace adorned with comfy bean bags.

The term “luxury hostel” may sound a little oxymoronic, but believe me, it’s true of this place! The first of its kind in the area, this offers simple accommodation at a fraction of the price of a hotel or resort equivalent. Pod-style beds, great communal areas and free Wi-Fi means your stay is convenient and comfortable!

11. Ala Hostel

Ala Hostel Seminyak Indonesia

This unassuming hostel may not win any prizes for design but it’s homely, cosy, and it’s great if you’re visiting Seminyak on a budget. It’s small and intimate, with just 4 rooms in total, so you’re not likely to be kept up until the early hours by other guests. It’s a ten-minute walk from Seminyak Beach, but if you want to head further you can always sort something out with the hostel’s tour desk.

When you’re back at the hostel, be sure to challenge the new guests you’ve met to a game on the foosball table. Or, relax your aching muscles in the steam room!

12. Socialista Lifestyle Hostel

Photos of Socialista Lifestyle Hostel

If you didn’t already get it from the photos, Socialista Lifestyle Hostel is one of the most chilled-out places to stay in Seminyak. Comfortable, stylish, and affordable, you’ll be able to relax by the pool either working on your laptop, reading a book, or topping up your tan. And, you’re less than five minutes away from a clutch of local bars and pubs where you can dance the night away!

13. Kosta Hostel

Photos of Kosta Hostel

Tucked away in a quiet suburb of Seminyak, Kosta Hostel is a great place to spend a few days doing nothing and enjoying your accommodation. There’s a gorgeous pool for a swim or use the sun-loungers around to catch up on your favourite book or just top up your tan.

This boutique-style hostel offers a range of mixed dorm rooms and deluxe private rooms all set around a tranquil swimming pool. There’s a restaurant and coffee shop on-site too, I’d definitely recommend splashing out on breakfast – if it’s not already included in your room rate. It’s both delicious and Instagrammable.

If you need a break from the sun, head inside and take advantage of the common room. It boasts a TV and a load of books too, so there’ll be something to suit your mood!

15. Gusti Homestay

Photos of Gusti Homestay

If you’re looking to have a great time in Bali and keep your costs down, look no further than Gusti Homestay. This budget Seminyak hostel not only has one of the cheapest beds in town, but it offers a whole load of freebies on top of that. You can expect breakfast, airport transfers, and parking (if you have your own transport) all free of charge.

As well as clean rooms, you’ll be welcome to use the swimming pool and the outdoor terrace, just a stone’s throw from Seminyak’s Eat Street.

Looking for a party hostel in Seminyak? d’Gobers is right on Petinget Street, with some of the best bars and nightlife around right on your doorstep. However, you don’t have to leave the hostel to enjoy copious amounts of alcohol and meet like-minded travellers!

There are regular nightly events like beer pong as well as a rooftop terrace and swimming pool that you can enjoy during the day. If you’ve got a hangover, the free breakfast each morning will sort that – you have the choice between an Indonesian breakfast, omelette or toast.

18. M-Box Seminyak

Photos of M-Box Seminyak

Travelling with your laptop? The best hostel for a digital nomad isn’t going to be wild all-night parties and constant noise. More likely it’ll be a good place to chill with a decent Wi-Fi connection.

At M-Box Seminyak, you’ll be able to make the most of capsule-style dorms, so that you won’t have to put up with too much noise. You’ll be fresh to work the next day in the cafe/restaurant at the front of the hostel and take advantage of the free breakfast.
