I’m here to ensure that your stay in Key West is as fun as possible! This is an epic spot to spend some time recharging on the beach if you’re backpacking in the USA. While it’s not common for backpackers to spend time on this boujee island, there are a couple of hostels to stay in.

Seashell International Hostel and Motel

One of the best hostels in Key West, Seashell International Hostel and Motel is located downtown on the island of Key West. Cheap hostels are minimal and this is my top pick due to its relatively low price and proximity to many of the most popular points of interest. Whether you’re visiting for a long holiday or stopping by for the weekend, this Key West hostel is the spot to start your adventures.
A few tourist attractions that are not to be missed are the Lighthouse Museum and the Earnest Hemingway Home. Key West Seashell Motel is the ideal location to explore both these tourist destinations as well as the Southernmost Point in the Continental United States. Another major perk here, especially for budget backpackers traveling with their own car, is that The Key West Seashell Motel has limited parking.

Private rooms are costly, but preferable for those who would not want to share the space with others. Cycling to nearby attractions is a low-cost alternative if you want to explore the area. Ride down Duval Street to the ferry to Dry Tortugas National Park for a stunning day out.
Do keep in mind that the Seashell Motel and Hostel has a strict no-alcohol and no-smoking policy. And after 10 pm is quiet time, know the rules and be a considerate hostelmate.

Don’t let the name fool you, this hostel offers dorms for people who travel on a budget but don’t want to skimp on comfort and convenience. With two Jacuzzis and three pools, there are plenty of relaxing common spaces where you can mingle with other travelers at NYAH. You can also cruise the breakfast area for potential travel buddies if you’re a solo traveler.
The property is a couple of blocks away from the old port and close to the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum. Once you’ve hit that iconic spot, cruise along Duval Street to Audubon House and the Tropical Gardens, getting around is easy and quick. And to fuel you – you’ll be happy to hear that a continental breakfast for your whole stay is included in the price!

There is a tour and travel desk onsite that can provide recommendations of what local attractions to see and what can be missed. And let’s not forget the bike rentals for exploring the town!

This lovely, private room in Key West has access to a shared pool, the perfect place to spend lazy afternoons. Greet the morning sun when you step out of the French doors onto the semi-private balcony, and update friends and family over the free wifi.
One of the things to love about this space is that it’s near to everything and you can walk everywhere! While there’s no breakfast onsite, you will be given vouchers to Harpoon Harry’s which is less than five minutes’ walk away. Just three blocks away from happening Duval Street, you can easily stroll to an abundance of bars, restaurants, and shops.

To all my girls, stay somewhere else, and to my gays, stay! Continental breakfast included, plus a fabulous pool to lounge in or by and there are bars within walking distance for when you’re ready to leave. But, first, enjoy the free drinks at happy hour in the home bar – sounds idyllic, right?
Take earplugs if you’re a light sleeper or don’t plan on partying all night, as the Bourbon Street pub is part of the New Orleans House. Being on Duval Street, you’re once again in a fabulous location, especially if you book a room with access to the verandah. You’ll be a prime position to people watch when you’re not playing baewatch at the pool.
El Patio Motel

With air conditioned rooms for some respite from the Florida heat and a lush garden and outdoor pool, this is an epic place to stay. The wifi is average so if you’re living the digital nomad life, you’ll have to get out and about to get your work done. This is an epic spot for travelers looking for a beach vacation and those who want to avoid the tourist trap of downtown. Walk 10 minutes for a beach day or 20 minutes into town, or, rent a bike, the best way to get around Key West.
