Quick Answer: The Best Hostels in Jaco

The 5 Best Hostels in Jaco

Jaco can be considered one of the best areas in Costa Rica, so you might want to plan a couple more days around the city.

Whether you’re here to party hard, unwind in style, save some dollars, or find the perfect pad for digital nomad-ing, this list of the best hostels in Jaco has you covered. Let’s dive in.

1. Room2Board Hostel and Surf School – Best Overall Hostel in Jaco

Room2Board Hostel and Surf School, Costa Rica
  • Dorm (mixed): From $20
  • Private Room: From $85
  • Address: 200 Metros Oeste De La Clinica De Jaco, in front of the beach, Jaco, Costa Rica

Room 2 Board Hostel and Surf School is the kind of place that literally has just about EVERYTHING you could ever wish for in a hostel. It’s clean, it’s modern, it’s friendly, and what’s more – it’s just a 30-second saunter down to Jaco beach.

Why you’ll love this hostel:

  1. On-site Surf School
  2. Rooftop Terrace
  3. Weekly Yoga Sessions

There’s an INSANE rooftop going on here, complete with hammocks – a place where you can simply lie back, chill, and listen to the waves crash just a stone’s throw away. It has the perfect balance of chill and party at play here. The staff are fun, the happy hours are needed and the location is sauntering distance from whatever party is on that night.

If you need a little more zen they offer morning yoga sessions twice a week on the rooftop and, of course, no trip to Jaco would be complete without trying your hand at a bit of surfing. They even offer surf packages to those hardcore surf dudes or just board rentals if you want to dabble. With the movie room, outdoor pool, and rooftop terrace, you’ll be inundated with things to do here. Between you and me, it’s one of my favorite hostels in Costa Rica.

2. Casajungla Hostel – Best Hostel in Jaco for Solo Travelers

Casajungla Hostel Jaco Costa Rica
  • Dorm (mixed): From $23
  • Private Room: From $56
  • Address: Av Pastor Diaz 30 mts sur hotel kangaroo, Jaco, Costa Rica

Craving a hostel with those calm surfer vibes? Casajungla Hostel might just be the place for you. It’s right off some of the best beaches in Costa Rica where you can go surf, explore, or simply live your best beach bum life. There won’t be any street noise or traffic at Casajungla Hostel, even though it’s just a few blocks from the beach.

Why you’ll love this hostel:

  1. Friendly Owners
  2. Great Location
  3. Strong AC

This place is VERY well taken care of—you can tell the owners really care about it here as a lot of love has clearly been thrown in. The owner Veronica is so sweet and helpful. The kitchen is the most impressive I have ever seen at a hostel. But the biggest pluses are the common areas as well as the playful resident dog. These shared spaces are the perfect way to chat with fellow travelers and definitely make people stay for longer than intended.

The breakfast deserves an honorable mention here: it’s free, DELICIOUS, and is really worth that little extra you pay to stay here. So whilst it’s not the cheapest hostel in Jaco, it’s definitely, definitely one of the nicest. You’re honestly going to love it.

3. Hostel de Haan – Best Cheap Hostel in Jaco

Hostel de Haan Jaco Costa Rica
  • Dorm (mixed): From $15
  • Private Room: From $40
  • Address: Calle el Bohio s/n, Jaco, Costa Rica

Right in the middle of Jaco, next to the beach, shops, restaurants, and just about everything else the town has to offer, is Hostel de Haan. It’s the best hostel in Jaco and possibly in all of Costa Rica for solo travelers. This place is vibrant and has a great atmosphere which makes meeting new people a breeze—plus it’s the cheapest in the town by faaaaaaaar.

Why you’ll love this hostel:

  1. Daily Events Held
  2. Super Social
  3. Great Location

Everything is thoroughly cleaned each day and feels very fresh. Don’t expect the world for prices this cheap but there’s a fully equipped kitchen and daily events like movie nights and drinking games. Just a word of warning that there’s only AC in certain dorms so make sure you choose wisely before booking if that bothers you!

The outdoor pool is a great place to cool off and chat with other people backpacking Costa Rica. If you’re a daredevil and have had one too many beers you can even show off and backflip from the floor above. Better you than me, eh? It can turn into a bit of a party here sometimes but don’t stress, the music is off by 10 pm if you’re not into it.

4. Socialtel Jaco – Best Party Hostel in Jaco

Socialtel Jaco
  • Dorm (mixed): From $25
  • Private Room: From $83
  • Address: Calle Alice, Provincia de Puntarenas, Jaco, Costa Rica

This former Selina hostel is THE place to be in Jaco if you’re looking for a party. Let’s manage our expectations: Jaco is never gonna be the next Ibiza, but a party is always around if you know where to find one. And Socialtel Jaco is most often one of those places. I’m talking happy hours, DJ sets, and a social vibe that lasts long into the early morning.

Why you’ll love this hostel:

  1. On Jaco Beach
  2. Daily Events
  3. Stylishly Designed

This cool, clean, and modern hostel is filled with a load of cool spaces to chill out, socialize, or get stuck in. Whether you’re looking for a bit of yoga to start your mornings, salsa lessons to spice things up, or movie nights to end a day of exploring, this place has you covered. When it’s time to explore the area, check out the best beaches around Jaco. Most are within walking distance, which is a bonus.

It definitely gives off more resort vibes than hostel here—and it has the amenities to match. The private rooms are suuuper swanky if you want to treat yourself, and the pool gives off 5-star hotel vibes rather than $30 hostel vibes. The atmosphere still feels buzzy and distinctly backpacker though which is absolutely fine by me!

5. Jaco Inn Surf Club – Best Hostel for Digital Nomads in Jaco

Jaco Inn best hostels in Jaco
  • Private Room: From $65
  • Address: Jaco Inn, Detras de Cafe Bohio, Av Pastor Diaz & Calle Bohio, Jaco, Costa Rica

Jaco Inn Surf Club is a boutique surf and yoga coliving space located in the heart center of Playa Jaco. Although not strictly a hostel, this coliving space is perfect for digital nomads who like the idea of living communally whilst still having their own space. It’s the perfect location to work from home while also enjoying surf, yoga, and some epic hikes through the surrounding nature.

Why you’ll love this hostel:

  1. Yoga Lessons
  2. Community Centred
  3. Free Breakfast

Jaco Inn Surf Club is located right on the main strip but the property is set back a little so it’s very peaceful and quiet. This place attracts some cool people and you’re sure to check out with a ton of new friends, it’s inevitable. Make sure you take some surf lessons with Juan on Jaco Beach as he is an absolute legend and his surf knowledge is second to none.

More Epic Jaco Hostels

Haven’t found the right hostel for you yet? Don’t worry, there are plenty more options waiting for you. To make the search a bit easier, I’ve listed more epic hostels in Jaco below. I’ve even added a couple of budget stays for good measure too.

Rallying up the troops and heading to Jaco? Why not check out my favorite Costa Rican Airbnbs too?!

Wipeout Hostel

Wipeout Hostel Jaco Costa Rica
  • Dorm (mixed): From $23
  • Private Room: From $63
  • Address: Calle Hermosa y Dr, byr, Jaco, Costa Rica

Location-wise, Wipeout Hostel is a winner. It’s within walking distance of the popular Playa Hermosa (good for surfing, obviously) and there are quite a few good restaurants along that part of the beach. The sunrises and sunsets at Hermosa Beach are truly amazing and the beach is a lot less crowded than that of central Jaco.

Back at the hostel, you’ll be welcomed by a friendly, chilled-out atmosphere. The owner will chat to you about your plans, you’ll get served up a pancake breakfast in the morning, and you’ll get to meet like-minded surfers staying here, too. Basically, it’s one of the best Jaco hostels – hands down.

La Perlita

La Perlita Jaco Costa Rica
  • Private Room: From $71
  • Address: Avenida Pastor Diaz Calle Mar de Luz (Rue à l’angle de Subway), 61101 Jacó, Costa Rica

This place isn’t a hostel I must admit, but La Perlita is still a place that serves as a great option for those trying to do Costa Rica on a budget. The garden here is more like a jungle, and is home to toucans! Pretty insane if you ask me. The cabins here have en-suite bathrooms and private terraces complete with hammocks so you’ll really be in a jungle paradise.

Though it’s located away from the (sometimes) crazy buzz of central Jaco, a five-minute walk will get you to the beach. Take surf lessons, browse the restaurants, or dive into being the best version of your beach bum self.

Beds on Bohio Hostel & Surf School

Beds on Bohio Hostel and Surf School best hostels in Jaco

If you’re looking to party, this place is IT. Seriously, Beds on Bohio Hostel & Surf School is one of the best party hostels in Jaco and it’s easy to see why. Right near the beach, with its own pool and bar, this place is ideal for hanging out day or night.

Be warned: nights here get messy. Music stays on until the early hours, there’s almost certainly going to be some drinking games going on every night, and there will be loud, drunk people living their literal best lives at this Jaco backpackers hostel. If drunkenness and loud music doesn’t sound like you, maybe give this place a miss.

Riva Hostel Jaco

Just a few seconds away from the beach on foot, Riva Hostel Jaco has a lot going for it – and I’m talking more than just its great location. Staying here means free access to the vibey beach club just a few minutes stroll away, complete with two pools, a bar, and music. What more could you want?

Being the best cheap hostel in Jaco, value for money is the name of the game at this place. The atmosphere is pretty chill, the whole place is pretty clean, and the staff are super friendly. There are even tents here if you want to make things EVEN cheaper for yourself!

Hostel Hacienda García

Hostel Hacienda García

Hostel Hacienda García is one of the best Jaco hostels—it’s certainly up there as a great all-rounder that won’t disappoint. Here you’ll find big, airy dorms with tons of space, pleasant private rooms that do the job just fine, and a nice communal atmosphere that isn’t too quiet OR too loud.

The location is pretty much perfect for exploring Jaco. Top marks. Hostel Hacienda García is centrally located and you can get pretty much anywhere in just 5 minutes. If you want a pool, staying here means free access to a beach club with its own pool – so don’t worry about that!

Getting Insured BEFORE Visiting Jaco

Unfortunately, things can go wrong when you least expect it. This is why good travel insurance is essential before you head on your trip to Jaco.

ALWAYS sort out your backpacker insurance before your trip. There’s plenty to choose from in that department, but a good place to start is Safety Wing.

They offer month-to-month payments, no lock-in contracts, and require absolutely no itineraries: that’s the exact kind of insurance long-term travellers and digital nomads need.

SafetyWing is cheap, easy, and admin-free: just sign up lickety-split so you can get back to it!
