As previously mentioned, Ios is popular when it comes to tourism in Greece which results in hotels tending to have a pretty high price tag. With that in mind, selecting a hostel in Ios is your best bet if you’re trying to save money, money, money (okay, I’ll stop with the Mamma Mia references now).

Each of the hostels that I have picked offers a range of different facilities. So no matter the experience you are looking for, there will be a location perfect for you on this list. The hostels listed include private dorms, group dorms, and larger family dorms which will be a great affordable option if you are traveling in a group.

If you’re staying in Greece, a hostel is worth trying at least once. You can seriously make friends for life in these places. Plus, when you’re on an island like Ios, you and your roommates will likely be visiting the same locations and partaking in the same activities.

You can expect to pay anywhere from $15 to around $100 per night when staying in Ios.

As I mentioned, Ios is split into two main towns, Chora and Ormos. 

Chora is the main town and honestly, this is the area where you want to be. Not only are there whimsical streets but all the best entertainment is in this area. The last thing you want to do is head to an island and be stuck for activities to do. This location also has some of the best beaches.

To formulate this list, I have used Booking.com and Hostelworld. These websites list the facilities offered at the accommodation, ratings, pictures, and discounts. They also include a short description surrounding the atmosphere as well as the most popular nearby attractions and landmarks. 

Okay, now you know what to expect from hostel life in Ios, you just have to pick your favorite place.

Each of these hostels has been picked due to their facilities, location, my personal experiences, and most importantly, the glowing reviews they have accumulated online. 

Best Overall Hostel in Ios – Francesco’s

This hostel was rated the best hostel in Greece since 2012. Then, in 2006 it was voted sixth-best hostel in the world. It goes without saying that Francesco’s has certainly built up a reputation on the island of Ios.

By staying here, you’ll be plunged straight into the island’s friendly atmosphere. You’ll find yourself located just a short walk away from the main square and 20 minutes away from the most popular beach. 

As for the hostel, it’s a family-run business. So, expect high-quality service and to feel all those home-away-from-home vibes. Your days here will be spent topping up your tan and your evenings can be spent enjoying the beloved nightlife scene.

There is a selection of rooms to choose from including mixed rooms, private rooms, and double bedrooms. Each room is equipped with air-conditioning which if you’re traveling to Ios in the Summer, you’ll be very appreciative of. Trust me, summers are the best time to visit Greece but dayum, they’re HOT. If you’re lucky, you may even get a room with a private balcony with views that overlook the ocean.

The reviews also boast about the delightful hosts that make this hostel feel like a hotel. They have a wealth of knowledge on the best excursions to do and which parts of Ios are worth traveling to.

Hostel for Large Groups in Ios – Villa Mata

The Greek tradition is upheld in this family-run villa in the picturesque port of Ios. With convenient access to the best beaches in town and a relaxed atmosphere, you and your friends will want to stay on this island forever. 

After undergoing a complete renovation in 2019, this villa has two separate buildings. The buildings are surrounded by a blooming garden that looks immaculate in the spring and summer months. Even by glancing at the pictures, you can imagine yourself reading your favorite book in this garden (at least I can).

Something to note about this villa is the authentic architecture. The architecture combines traditional Aegean design with a contemporary flair that is truly gorgeous.

There is a selection of rooms to choose from so all your friends will feel well looked after. The rooms also have modern amenities such as a kitchenette, air conditioning, and a private balcony. 

The views from your balcony will either consist of the beautiful gardens or the scenic ocean and honestly, I couldn’t decide which one is better. However, with so much on your doorstep, you’ll have to leave soaking in the views for the evening and make the most of your day in the nearby town.

When traveling as a couple or group, it’s difficult to cater to everyone. However, by staying here, you’ll have a selection of restaurants on your doorstep.

This means even the pickiest of eaters will be satisfied. Plus, adventurous friends can head straight for the watersports while the laid-back travelers can unwind on the beach.

Best Hostel for Solo Travelers in Ios – Princess Sissy Hotel

This is one of the best hostels in Ios…that is also a hotel. Either way, you’ll be easily connected to the bustling town of Chora.

This location is ideal for those who love the nightlife culture. You’ll be a five-minute walk away from the center of Chora where you’ll discover some of the best nightclubs. There are also late-night bars, pubs, and even discos nearby.

You should know that this entire area is filled with a positive atmosphere that radiates throughout the town. You’ll come to realize that despite the island being small, there’s never a dull moment here.

Why you’ll love this hostel:

• Internet Cafe
• Friendly staff

This place features rooms that each have their own private bathrooms, showers, air-conditioning, and balconies. You will have to pay an extra €7 per day for breakfast but after a night on the town it may just be worth it.

Conveniently, tourists and locals also come together for daily excursions to archaeological sites. They also provide transport to some of the best beaches in town, so you’ll never be stuck for something to fill your days with.

Now, I personally think that the word ‘lost’ really means ‘adventure.’ So, navigating the island would be an exciting activity for me.

However, I do have friends who tend to become overdramatic when I lead them in the wrong direction. If you’re like my friends, you’ll be glad to know that the owners are more than happy to provide directions and information on the best places to visit.

Hostel with a Pool in Ios – Skala Hotel

This accommodation has garnered several five-star reviews online which boast about the incredible hospitality that they received by staying here. 

You’ll feel right at home as soon as you set foot inside. Breathe in the fresh island breeze before taking a quick dip in the swimming pool to recharge. After, head straight to your room and capture the ocean views from your balcony.

Despite there being so much to explore on the island, you will have to drag yourself away from this place. You’ll make the best memories by ordering yourself cocktails at the pool bar and having a barbeque dinner with your best friends. Most of all, this hostel is in the prime location for the best activities. Hop on the bus to the famous Manganari Beach or rent a scooter to explore the island at your leisure. The staff will also help you to arrange day trips to other islands.

If you’re looking for a more subdued island getaway, this is where you want to be. You’ll feel just like a local as you embody the Greek lifestyle in the Aphrodite Hotel. 

This is one of the best hostels in Ios for couples because of the incredibly serene atmosphere. You’ll be moments away from the main square but most of all, you’ll be surrounded by adorable boutique shops.

Pick up a gift for your partner at the jewelry stores and select a souvenir at the mini-markets. Then, hop on your rented bike and head straight to the coast for a romantic beach picnic.

For the foodies, you’ll be more than happy to know that the best bakeries are located here. Calories don’t count when you’re on vacation, right?

Considered “the hottest spot on Ios” this hostel is located right on Mylopotas Beach – one of the most beautiful places in Greece I’ve seen.

This location is perfect if you love the party scene too. During the day, lounge at the Far Out Village Pool Bar & Restaurant and challenge other travelers to some healthy competition. There is tennis, volleyball, and basketball equipment available. 

However, the evening is when the party really gets started. Take a short stroll to Far Out Camping site and dance until the early hours of the morning. 

As for the rooms, there is a selection to choose from each with its own ensuite. If you’re traveling with a group of friends, have the ultimate slumber party in one of their private group rooms.

Palm

Situated right in the middle of Chora, this hostel in Ios is run by a lovely local couple. You’ll feel like a part of the family as the owner greets you at the port and helps you with your luggage.

Once settled into your room, simply ask for directions to the best hidden gems and set off on your island adventure. Or just go straight to AstraBar for a cocktail, hehe, that’s what I did.

Coffee and breakfast are served every morning at the nearby cafes and the nightlife scene is just a short distance away. This accommodation mostly serves as a safe destination to return to at night and there is no pressure to socialize.

Brother’s Hotel

Make your trip memorable at the Brother’s Hotel. This place is within walking distance of the port and Yialos Beach. When the weather in Greece is nice, Yialos beach is suuuper nice.

This family-run hotel features a pool and rooms that have views of the surrounding garden. One thing for certain is that you’ll certainly feel relaxed staying here.

As for the location, bars, cafes and restaurants are within close proximity and there are plenty of opportunities for scenic walks. Plus, with convenient access to the buses, you can easily travel from one location to the next.

Due to Ios being an island, there are limited hostels. BUT, the ones I found did exceed my expectations.

Most importantly, these hostels are reasonably priced. Sought-after islands like Ios tend to hike up their prices but these locations will allow you to have an island escape without worrying too much about your bank account.

If you can’t decide, Francesco’s has to come out on top for this one. It has all the family-run vibes and the entire hostel is practically a hotel just without the expensive price tag. You also won’t need to worry about navigating the island since everything is right outside your door.
