Sadly, Dallas ain’t no cowboy ranch no more. No tequila slamming Tex-Mex into baby horses, no highway shoot outs at dawn, and nobody nicking pies from windowsills.

No, Dallas is a shiny, modern and utterly changed entity.

Today, Dallas is a sleek, modern city with the largest arts district in the U.S., and a park that covers up the highway—making sure those highway shootouts are just a dimly lit memory.

Of course, that only means that there are some banging accommodation options to choose from!

Which spot gives you the best bang for your buck? Where shows you the sparkliest views of the city skyline And how close can you get to the juiciest steak joint?

My guide to where to stay in Dallas shall be bringing all of these answers and more, perfect for helping you discover your perfect ranch away from home. *Ahem*, your perfect home away from home.

Let’s check out Dallas, TX.

Where is the Best Place to Stay in Dallas?

For those backpacking Dallas, I advise grabbing some mates and tactically striking a cheap Airbnb. With the unfortunate lack of hostels, it’s the only way folks.

The Indulge boutique gives guests the chance to indulge their sweet tooth with fine chocolates and Italian ice cream.

SOVA Micro-Room & Social Hotel Dallas Texas

The hotel’s location is unbeatable, especially for the price – and bonus points for the incredible farmer’s market nearby and the short walk into Downtown Dallas. The vibe here is spot on, making it a top-notch choice for a budget-friendly yet enjoyable stay!

There are a limited number of hostels in Dallas (i.e zero), but I’ve put budget hotels where I can, to help you keep your trip wallet-friendly!

B-Cool Loft in Deep Ellum | Best Airbnb in Dallas

B-Cool Loft in Deep Ellum

Where is the best area in Dallas to stay in without a car?

If you’re coming to the City without a car, Downtown Dallas is your best bet. You’ll find epic restaurants, handy public transport, and a ton of the city’s hotspots right at your feet. The majority of the city’s attractions, museums, cultural events, and bars are concentrated here and will keep you busy without a lot of travel time.

Is Dallas a walkable city?

Absolutely! Dallas is ranked the third “most-walkable” city in the U.S., trailing just behind Chicago and Nashville. According to Preply, you can explore all of Dallas’ top tourist spots with just 3,570 steps—that’s about 1.7 miles or a breezy 41 minutes on foot.

What’s the difference between Uptown and downtown Dallas?

Uptown is where trendy meets upscale, with stylish bars, chic boutiques, and a vibrant nightlife. The vibrant hub of the city, however, is located downtown, which is teeming with popular tourist destinations, cultural hubs, and tall skyscrapers. It’s perfect for diving into the urban vibe and exploring Dallas’ rich history and modern marvels. Choose Uptown for laid-back luxury and Downtown for dynamic city life!

Don’t Forget Travel Insurance for Dallas

Unfortunately, things can go wrong when you least expect it. This is why good travel insurance is essential before you head on your trip to Dallas.

ALWAYS sort out your backpacker insurance before your trip. There’s plenty to choose from in that department, but a good place to start is Safety Wing.

From its rich history and diverse culture to its incredible cuisine, its sports scene, and its live music venues, there’s something for travelers of all ages, styles, interests, AND budgets in this metropolitan city.
