Located in the Old Town, Hidden Gem is a couple of blocks away from Kalemegdan Park, an epic place to explore. You can learn about the history of Belgrade fortress on this stunning property at the meeting point of the River Danube and Sava River. I, like you, have no idea as to why they’ve named their hostel after the devil in Spanish – but I’ll go with it. Fine. It really doesn’t live up to its name since, because of its friendly and welcoming atmosphere, it’s the best hostel for solo travellers in Belgrade.
Yep, the staff are amazing here. Funny, knowledgeable, and always up for a chat or a more in-depth conversation about where to stay in Serbia or something related. It all helps to make this a top hostel in Belgrade, easily. Inside it’s all bright, cute and cosy… if a teensy bit basic, but that’s ok!

I love that El Diablo is a small place, with three dorm rooms and a private double room, it feels cosy, perfect for solo backpackers. You’ve got all the in-house amenities; free wi fi, air conditioning, hot showers, security lockers as well as a kitchen. Cook up a storm for the new homies after a trip to the supermarket just down the road… Maybe you bought it, maybe you were dumpster diving…
Hang out on the rooftop terrace and enjoy your meal or just crack some beers and watch the Belgrade sunset – Bliss!
3. Hostelche – Best Cheap Hostel in Belgrade

Hostel… che. Huh? Is that Hostel Che as in Guevara? Or one word, hostelche, rhymes with squelch? Pfft, I dunno.
What I do know is that, for your money, this already cheap accomodation in Belgrade gives you a lot. I’m talking free tea and coffee all day, a free welcome drink (rakija of course), and free laundry (if you stay 3 or more nights). PLUS; a not free but CHEAP breakfast and a great location with loads on the doorstep and Belgrade’s main street less than 1 min away.
I mean, it’s easily the best cheap hostel in Belgrade, right? Somewhat lacking in interior design taste, however…

There are a couple of mixed droms at Hostelche and a couple of private rooms, one with three beds. So if you’re budget travelling with the crew, this can be a fun option for a bit of privacy in the hostel mix. The bathrooms are all shared but I haven’t seen any fights break out over it, everyone here’s chilling.
Another key free highlight of Hostelche is the next-door restaurant “?” (‘Pitanje’ in Serbian which translates to Question Mark). The oldest restaurant in the city and often has old violin music playing that drifts over to you.

Chic decor in a period building with retro fittings and amazing staff who want everyone to get together and have a good time. There’s a great atmosphere at Balkan Soul Hostel in a very decent location, this is the best party hostel in Belgrade. If you’re on your own, you’ll be sure to meet some new people and make some friends here.
Exploring one of the best party cities in Europe together is way better than doing it alone! There’s a lot of communal activities, sometimes a pub crawl, sometimes eating together. Other times just sitting around chatting in the common room – but those can be the best nights, right?

Oooo! Ahhh! The private rooms at Sun Hostel really are excellent. Yep, I said it: excellent. They’re like… well they’re tasteful, really nicely decorated, sort of like what you’d imagine your dream bedroom to be crossed with a design magazine. It’s very boutique but very homely at the same time.
But wait, there’s more! The vibe at this Belgrade backpackers hostel is also great and super social without being too much of a party-drinky-rowdy affair. So even with a private room, you can meet people in the communal areas.
In my opinion, this makes it the perfect place to stay for digital nomads. Especially if you’re like me, often travelling alone but keen to link up and let your hair down. I’ve found your joint, now pack your bags and go!

Located in Slavija, Sun Hostel is further out of the old town but it’s such a dreamy spot. Walking distance from the Orthodox Temple of Saint Sava, beautiful open-air markets, and Slavija Square, this hostel is for my culture vultures. Slavija is known as the cultural nucleus of Belgrade and has so many pockets of Serbian culture to explore.
Slavija is also the place of arrival/departure for the airport shuttle bus which offers transport to passengers to and from Belgrade Nikola Tesla International Airport. So, it’s a handy option on your way in or out, or if you don’t have much time here.
Stash your cash safely with this money belt. It will keep your valuables safely concealed, no matter where you go.

6. ArkaBarka Floating Hostel

Ok, obviously this guy takes the cake for the most unique hostel! Situated on the River Danube sits a barge which has long since been the home of a beloved cafe, now hosting backpackers. In the rooms at this floating hostel, you’ll have all the mod cons; free wi fi, beautiful views, reading lights and a ceiling fan.
The common room inside has a fireplace (free sauna here btw) and out on the river still sits the cafe area. The cafe-come lounge bar serves free breakfast and beer for 1.5Euro (woop woop!) and hosts live music events. You can rent an electric scooter or bike from here too. Long live the floating hostel!
7. The Travelling Theater

The Traveling Theater is your new fave home away from home if you like intimate, homely vibes and a tight crew. You’ll be welcomed with a shot of Rakija to initiate you into the family. You’ll be within walking distance of 95% of all the tourist hotspots and the staff will happily guide you to all the best spots.
Whether you want to go dancing, eat something yummy, head to the beach, or all of the above, the friendly staff will help. With their insider knowledge, you’re sure to get the best possible Belgrade experience and leave this city wanting more. With just two mixed dorm rooms, the numbers are intimate, the alleged optimal number 14 being the MO of The Travelling Theater.
8. Nomad Hostel Belgrade

- Address: Skadarska 15, Beograd 11000, Serbia
Verrrry tastefully decorated (someone’s got an eye for design, clearly) and set in a niiiice old building with period features and a retro-cool parquet floor. The fact it’s in an old building gives it this warm homely feeling too, which is something I can get on board with.
The location is also pretty dang amazing. Countless (I mean it) places to eat and drink just on the doorstep in one of Belgrade’s best areas. Friendly staff, looks really cool, good facilities, can’t fault it.
9. Hostel Bongo
- Dorm (mixed): From $25/night
- Private Room: From $63/night
- Address: 36 Terazije, Stari Grad, 11000 Belgrade, Serbia
Mercifully, there ain’t a single bongo in sight at this top hostel in Belgrade. That would be… yeah. Let’s not think about it. Hostel Bongo is actually named after a character in a book by Erlend Loe – bring a book by him and get 10% off. Seriously.
There’s a family vibe here, probably because it’s quite… cosy. Not small necessarily, but compact enough to make it feel close-quarters without being uncomfortable. It helps with the atmosphere, in fact, since no one’s rattling around in big cavernous common areas.
The staff, you might expect, are great. And the location is central, you’re close to all the fun things to do in Belgrade, but the hostel is down a quiet side street. Win-win.
10. Hostel Karavan Inn
- Dorm (mixed): From $24/night
- Private Room: From $65/night
- Address: Bulevar kralja Aleksandra 60, Vra?ar, 11000 Belgrade, Serbia
This hostel is super clean in the city centre and another epic place to base yourself to discover all Belgrade has to offer. With a big comfy communal spaces and an outdoor terrace, you can mix and mingle and make yourself at home. The staff are friendly and offer a free city tour and free city maps if you need any direction for your adventures.
This one of the newer Belgrade hostels in the heart of the city on Belgrade’s oldest street Bulevar kralja Aleksandras. Just across from the big and beautiful Tasmajdan park, great for picnicking and soaking up the local life. They have mixed dorms and female only dorms with comfy new bunk beds and air conditioning in every room.
11. Spirit Hostel
- Dorm (mixed): From $58-$82/night
- Address: Brace Baruh 20b, Stari Grad, 11000 Belgrade, Serbia
You can find find cheap accommodation! Close to the city centre, clean, incredibly helpful staff – so far it’s ticking a lot of boxes for a top hostel in Belgrade, if not for the best hostel in Belgrade. Well, Spirit hostel came close (it’s certainly ONE of the best), but the decor’s a bit basic and in some places looks a bit dated.
The free breakfast is only available for private room guests (boo), though as far as private rooms go they’re not a bad price at all. But that location: right in the middle of Dorcol, one of the oldest parts of Belgrade to explore. But yeah, Spirit hostel ticks most boxes for decent Belgrade hostels.
12. Hostel Home Sweet Home
There is definitely a homely feel at Hostel Home Sweet Home, which is probably why they named it how they did. I like that – and I like the fact that this is a peaceful, quiet hostel. Combine that with tasteful, minimalist style decor and you have the best hostel for couples in Belgrade.
The private rooms feel more like boutique hotel rooms, which adds to it all for couples wanting a memorable place to spend their travelling days. And for non-couples (or couples out for a bargain), the dorm beds are some of the cheapest around!
13. Manga Hostel
What’s manga about Manga Hostel? Nothing, as far as I can gather. But you do get air-conditioned rooms as standard. Plus free walking tours of the city, free tea and coffee, and a few cosy places to hang out and chill. Whilst it may not be the coolest hostel in Belgrade, it might be the chillest.
Sure, it might be down an alleyway – but the location in Belgrade is really good otherwise and Belgrade’s safe generally. Sure, the showers might not be the best – but the staff are super welcoming. Loads more pros than cons here, a decent choice.
14. Hostel Skadarlija Sunrise
What is it with Belgrade and parquet floors? It’s not a problem for me (I love ’em) but, you know, just wondering, cause there’s a lot of them out there. Probably has something to do with buildings being old. Hostel Skadarlija is one of them. Being named after a vintage district of the same name, you can bet it’s a V pretty area to be in… Leafy, cobbled streets and cafes with terraces.
Yep, sounds good to me. Added to the perf location close to the happening Belgrade nightlife, the vibe at this youth hostel in Belgrade is social and friendly. With a chill garden area and a bar to hang out in, don’t let the $$$ scare you. It’s really only a tiny more pricey than other Belgrade hostels – still a bargain.
